Spicy and sweet, this is a Margarita for the semi-adventurous spirit. It is actually not too spicy and that is due impart to the use of the sweeter reposado tequila versus an unaged blanco, and Don Julio is certainly one of the better options. The other sweeteners, the cognac-based Grand Marnier and agave nectar, also help quell the jalapeno's spiciness so the drink is very palatable and pleasing.

However, when it comes to any drink that uses peppers I do caution you to not attempt on of those "how hot can I make this" challenges because drinking overly spicy things is different than eating them.

There is a much better way., Member DavidPC

If you actually muddled a whole jalapeno in the shaker, you wouldn't be able to taste anything for hours. The way to make a perfect, consistent jalapeno margarita is with Tanteo Jalapeno-infused Tequila. Tanteo blends six different jalapeno macerates in 100% agave blanco tequila. It's a true craft spirit. Try it and you'll never mess around with jalapenos in the shaker again. I hope this is helpful.
