Whiskey Cocktails for Mothers Day 2011

Explore the world of cocktails on Mothers Day

From

If you are taking mom out for Mothers Day brunch this year as many people do, here are some great whiskey cocktails to explore while celebrating the wonderful mothers in our lives. Feel free to order these in any restaurant with a full cocktail bar, they should be easy for the bartender to make and you'll find them all to be unique and delightful.

1. Whiskey Sour

The favorite drink of first time Mother's Day honoree Raena Mayhew, the classic whiskey sour combines whiskey, citrus and sugar into a simple yet refreshing drink. Look for bartenders to use this drink to make interesting variations with fruits and herbs.

2. Manhattan Cocktail

The Manhattan is to whiskey as the Martini is to gin. A classic in every way, the Manhattan is elegance in a glass. Talk to your bartender about which sweet vermouth to pair with the whiskey in this drink, it makes all the difference.

3. Mint Julep

On a hot Spring day, nothing beats a mint julep. Sugar, mint, lots of ice, good bourbon and a silver cup create something far more than the sum of its parts. A truly amazing cocktail in the hands of a skilled barman. One of the best juleps in the country is currently made by Andrew Finkelman at Branch Whiskey Bar in Portland, Oregon.

4. Lynchburg Lemonade

There is a reason Jack Daniel's is so popular and the Lynchburg Lemonade highlights this great whiskies mixability. Lemon lime soda, triple sec, Jack Daniel's and sweet & sour (or citrus) make this a simple yet delicious choice.
