Let's just say that many drinks take the name Jack-O-Lantern in one form or another, though few impress me. This is an exception and I find it to be one of the more pleasant Jack (how appropriate?) Daniel's drinks out there.

This is a cocktail that has a life and vibe all its own, though portions of the recipe are reminiscent of well-known drinks. Essentially, the Tennessee whiskey is adorned with the essences of orange and mint, sweetened and soured a bit, then there is the rich Chambord to balance everything out ever so gently. It is a fun drink, with the Chambord drifting to the bottom (à la Tequila Sunrise) and adding both a visual and flavor layer.

Yield: 1 Cocktail



  1. Muddle an orange wheel and mint leaves in a shaker tin.
  2. Add ice and all ingredients and shake vigorously.
  3. Strain into a martini glass.
  4. Slowly pour the Chambord into the glass (it will sink to the bottom).
  5. Garnish with an orange wheel.
