Let's just say that many drinks take the name Jack-O-Lantern in one form or another, though few impress me. This is an exception and I find it to be one of the more pleasant Jack (how appropriate?) Daniel's drinks out there.
This is a cocktail that has a life and vibe all its own, though portions of the recipe are reminiscent of well-known drinks. Essentially, the Tennessee whiskey is adorned with the essences of orange and mint, sweetened and soured a bit, then there is the rich Chambord to balance everything out ever so gently. It is a fun drink, with the Chambord drifting to the bottom (à la Tequila Sunrise) and adding both a visual and flavor layer.
For the 2012 Halloween season, you can find this drink (and those recommended below the recipe) at these New York City bars: Stone Rose Lounge, Lilium, Whiskey Blue, Whiskey Park, Living Room. More info about all of the venues at GerberBars.com
