The Presbyterian is one of those classic cocktails that is subject to interpretation. Despite its simple list of three ingredients, there are many variations. Some recipes will use ginger ale while others substitute it for 7-up or another other lemon-lime soda. On the base liquor side, one thing is for sure, whiskey is necessary, but whether that be bourbon, rye or a good-old blended whiskey is one of personal taste. What I do like about this mixed drink is that it has just a touch more depth than the ever-classic Highball and this is where I think ginger ale is necessary.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 oz bourbon, rye or blended whiskey
- club soda
- ginger ale
- lemon twist for garnish
Preparation:
- Fill a highball glass with ice and add bourbon.
- Fill with equal parts club soda and ginger ale.
- Stir and garnish with a lemon twist.
