The Robert Burns (or Bobby/Bobbie Burns) is one of those classic cocktails from the golden age of adult beverages. Most people would associate the drink with Robert Burns, the famed Scottish poet of the 1700's, but according to Crockett in The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book it may have been named after a cigar salesman who was a regular at the bar. One caution: take it easy on the absinthe and bitters as they can easily take over the drink.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz Scotch
- 3/4 oz sweet vermouth
- dash of orange bitters
- dash of absinthe
Preparation:
- Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Stir well.
