Sakura Cocktail Recipe - Spring Cocktail Contest

Sakura Cocktail

Your Name (optional)

Blair Frodelius

Cocktail Name

Your cocktail recipe.

  • 1.5 oz Vesica Vodka
  • 0.25 oz Lillet Blanc
  • 5 drops Maraska Maraschino Liqueur
  • 5 drops Midori
  • 5 drops Hiram Walker Peach Brandy

Stir in ice filled glass and strain into Reidel Vivant Bourbon glass and garnish with Luxardo cherry.

Your inspiration.

One of the most popular spring festivals held in Japan is Sakura, the celebration of the cherry trees in blossom. I planted a cherry tree in my front yard many years ago, and it always comes into bloom around the end of April. I was beginning to worry that they wouldn't arrive by the contest deadline for my photograph, but lo and behold, they arrived today (April 29).

I wanted to make a smaller, more delicate cocktail with the flavor profile of sake. As well, I wanted to recognize the national symbol of Japan by using a Luxardo Maraschino cherry as a garnish. If you look down into the glass, you'll see a red circle surrounded by the white condensation on the outside of the glass.

Lessons Learned

  • I used an eye dropper to get the precise amounts called for in this drink.
