Your inspiration.
I was keen to make a longer drink for a change as had recently been focusing on short aromatics. I also had discovered Sea-Buckthorn juice at a local market and wanted to utillise its distinctive flavour (slightly sour, sharp yet full at the same time - similar to a cape gooseberry). Its also incredibly high in vitamin C.
I think it works as none of the flavours mask each other but all come subtly through - also I was surprised at how aromatic a fruity drink can be and didnt miss my usual squeeze of lime.
Advice
- Sea Buckthorn juice can be substituted with juiced cape gooseberries, mango, peach or nectarine. They all have a similar viscosity and though the flavours vary a lot they will all work in this drink.
- To make passion fruit cordial mix 1 cup of demerara sugar, 1 cup of water and the flesh of 4 passion fruits in a pan. Simmer until sugar dissolved and sieve out passion fruit seeds, ensuring all the flesh is pushed through.
- If you dont have vanilla bourbon use vanilla sugar instead of demerara or add a vanilla pod to the syrup.
- Any fruit garnish is suitable but the aroma of the basil really complements the drink
