Saturday Night Tart
1 1/4 oz of Tequila (recommend Reposado)
1/2 oz Cointreau
1/2 oz Tart Cherry Juice (must be Tart or Red Tart Juice)
1/2 oz lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon Cherry Herring liquer
1 teaspoon of fine sugar (or to taste)
1 dash orange bitters
Combine all ingredients in shaker, shake well, strain into a chilled cocktail glass-add orange peel and cherry for garnish.
My wife introduced me to Tart Cherry juice, great for it's antioxidant and anti inflamation properties. The more antioxidants the better, add some alcohol!
So many cocktails I see at local clubs are very sweet, I wanted to put together a drink that was not so sweet, but still had a fruity flavor.
- I've tried this drink with unaged Tequila, but preferred Reposado.
- Tart cherry juice can be hard to find, if it's not in the juice section of your local grocery store, try the health food section.
- Sugar syrup will work well, but I've found that regular sugar brings out the flavor of the lemon juice.
- I often rim the glass with red colored sugar, and if a cherry is used for a garnish, try to find bing cherries.
