For those wondering what Vodka is . All spirits start as a wine or beer ferment . Alchohol content is1 - 17 percent typical . A still evaporates and condenses alchohol and other chemicals in the distilliation. The term vodka means it is triple distilled . Vodka can be made from anything .By triple distilling , you raise the alch. content to 190 proof at this point it has no color , taste , or smell . This is why it is # 1 with alchoholics . Since 190 proof is very Harsh to drink , it is cut with water to 80 -100 proof for drinkability . When people say they can taste a differance among vodkas , the only thing you can taste is the water to proof it with . As for the hangover factor - there are a lot of other chemicals which are distilled off at the same time as ethyl alchohol . When these components are not removed by careful , quality distillilation ,they remain ,giving that wonderful throbbing sensation in your head . Dehydration also plays a part in a hangover . Cheers
